OH NO! THE GIGGLE HAS CLAIMED THY THIRD STATION OF PLAY!!!
That’s right! Bittergiggle is now available on the PlayStation 3! Here’s my personal experience with it. At first, I was going full commando with Windows only. I couldn’t get it working properly, and being frustrated, left it on hold. When I gave the Vita a try, I learned about this cool thing called Windows Linux Subsystems! You basically have a mini Linux inside your copy of Windows! It’s very convenient, albeit slow.
Since PS3 and Vita’s Homebrew SDKs needed Linux to function, WSL saved me a lot of headaches! It’s bongo!
Now onto the development process of PS3. I decided to fiddle around with samples and samples of libraries I found lying around on Github. Since ya2D basically just didn’t work, I decided to go with Tiny3D. It was tricky trying to get Bittergiggle to appear with the ghosts, but when I found out that these ‘special’ bin files are actually just regular files but with their extension renamed to bin, things went smooth! ..for the most part. I then had to implement the song. I tried using ps3soundlib, but unfortunately, that ended up being AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE to work with. I eventually just grabbed my white flag and resorted to SDL. This time, it was for the audio, seeing as I’ve already managed to get the graphics done. After some peeping at other open source projects that were using SDL, and a little fiddling around with Content Information Files, it was complete!
It’s not THE port of all time, seeing how the app stutters here and there, but it works! My favorite part definitely had to be the Content Information Files, they just looked SO cool!
This’ll do for now. See you all when I decide to give the PS2 a go or the PSP! Do you guys have suggestions? Lemme know!
